Arkema, a world leader in specialty materials, will lead the discussion at the 2022 Adhesives and Sealants Sustainability Forum, Sept., 19-21 at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, Pa.
.

Dr. Chris Miller, senior global research director for coating resins at Arkema will headline the event with a keynote entitled “Sustainable Development Trends and Outlook for the Adhesives and Sealants Industry” at 8:45 am in the Lawrence Welk Room – Mezzanine. Additionally, Arkema is a primary sponsor of the event and will be showcasing innovation in the exhibit area.

“Events like this are important to our industry’s future,” said Miller. “Innovation in sustainability needs open dialogue across industries. At Arkema, we strive to better understand how the decisions we make impact not just our industry but the communities in which these products are used."

Arkema segments key sustainability drivers across the industry into four categories:

  • Eliminating substances of concern, such as solvents, hazardous plasticizers, formaldehyde and more.
  • Exploring alternative feedstocks, which can take the form of bio-based sources such as corn, or bio-circular sources such as forestry residue or tall oil.
  • Reducing energy intensity, resulting in a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
  • Supporting sustainable performance attributes, such as the development of lighter weight material options, building efficiency (reduced energy usage) and greater productivity.

“Furthering sustainability has to come from industry-wide partnerships and a greater understanding of the full product life cycle. Working together, we can achieve goals that we are not capable of alone,” said Miller.

Arkema offers a wide range of binders and additives for use in construction, adhesives, sealants and elastomeric products.
